A useful summary is one the other person can correct. It need not include your argument or your next request.<\/p><h2>State a boundary plainly<\/h2><p>\u201cI can discuss this for ten minutes, then I need to leave.\u201d A boundary communicates what you will do. It is clearer when it does not depend on diagnosing or blaming someone else.<\/p><aside class=\"exercise\"><p class=\"eyebrow\">A PRIVATE REFLECTION<\/p><h3>Try a three-line reply.<\/h3><p>For an invented everyday disagreement, write one summary, one question and one boundary.
